So this is his face when his uncle contemplates murdering him in his sleep.
And people want to talk about this character being a manipulative mastermind.
When they put THIS face
to show a moment of intimate, devastating betrayal
in his SLEEP. Over a dark presence that has been manipulating and abusing him from before birth.
Ben has lost his innocence in this moment – the choice was made FOR him, not BY him. He has been broken down to his shattering point. It’s heartbreaking.
I’m sorry, but Ben had every right to feel terrified and defend himself in this moment. It’s like if someone held you at gunpoint in your sleep. If that someone was your UNCLE, who was also the man you considered a real father figure in your life.
And then you wake up from the rubble you pulled down over yourself to realize no one will ever believe you. They’re going to instantly pin the whole thing on you. So what’s the point of even trying? Give in to the dark man whispering in your ear… because he’s the only one who’ll give you a chance at anything. Maybe it’ll free you from the pain. Maybe you’ll find release. Somehow.
I just cannot emphasize enough that this villain is the most heartbreaking case I’ve seen on screen, and the most compelling one I’ve seen for a redemption.
